About

A Stroud Lions Club community project

The Stroud Lions Club serves the community of Stroud and environs and we are proud that our dream for a web site for the community has turned into a reality.

The Karuah Valley falls into a communication ‘black hole’ with residents finding it hard to know what is happening in their own community. The Stroud Community Web (SCW) was conceived to bridge that gap. Many thanks go to the Duralie Coal Community Enhancement Project for providing grant funding to enable the website to be born and carried to this point in time.

It has been an exciting evolution. Peter Cowden was the visionary Lion who stepped up and created the first website.  When he moved to the Central Coast the site floundered until Daphne Dobbyn bravely took up the reins. The Lions Club wish to thank Daphne for her creativity and commitment to developing and managing the SCW and for the many hours of love and hard work that have gone into keeping all of us informed over the past two years.

The SCW, like other projects Lions have initiated for the benefit of this community needs to be a long term vision and not a bandaid solution. The website will need to work, grow and adapt with our changing needs. It should strive to be an interesting place for members of our community to visit, and it will need to survive as people come and go within that membership. Last of all, it needs to be financially self-supporting. Too many great ideas are born on grant funding and fall by the wayside when grants dry up. The Stroud Community Lodge epitomises such a success –a  long-term and sustainable project that benefits the community – and is the model we are using to improve communications throughout the Karuah Valley.

Peter and Daphne have built a sturdy foundation for this project to move forward and we now proudly launch this ‘new look’ SCW. Angela Hutchins is now the SCW administrator, with Tess Hilleard bringing her journalistic expertise to compliment the team.  Together they have laboured, and with long hours at the computer, they have gathered and implemented ideas that are now found on this exciting interactive website. And the beneficiary of all this work is us – the residents of the Karuah Valley. How lucky we are!

I urge you strongly to support this project, because no matter how hard Ange and Tess work on this site it needs all of us to visit it and provide them with our input and ideas. It needs your advertising, it needs constant updating of your club or organisation’s news or events, photos and stories, because this website is about us and our valley’s news.  Please, make the website your browser’s homepage and take a few minutes whenever you are online to see what is happening in your community. Use the website to share news. If you are planning an event which needs public support or involvement, the opportunity exists to use the website. To borrow an old line “watch this space”!
