Everyone a winner @ Lions Calcutta

by Stroud Lions Club

What a night – with everyone a winner!

The Lions’ Calcutta at the Stroud Country Club on Saturday night was the best ever. The best fun, the most successful and then from 9 until 12 dancing the night away to “The Nevilles.”

Thank you Stroud, for supporting your local Lions Club and your Stroud Country Club.

Stroud Lions asked for help to run this extra special Calcutta and these sponsors helped make the evening happen; so a big thank you to Stroud Pharmacy, Stroud Rodeo Committee, Allworth Fishing Club, Stroud Central Hotel and Craig Baldwin and family. Prizes for the Best Dressed Colt and Filly were donated by Alderley Creek Vineyard and Stroud Country Club donated the prizes for the games played when the band had a break. Thanks to everyone who bought a Calcutta ticket, bought a horse and bought a ticket to hear the band. You are the ones who made it such a success. And of course, a huge thank you to David Gorton for his excellent contribution as auctioneer!

Everyone looked fantastic on the night but the two standouts were Brian Russell who took out the best dressed colt, and Sarah Eggins the best dressed filly. They looked like they had just walked off the grass at Flemington!

Four lucky people will tonight be celebrating their wins with the highest ever prize pool:

  • 1st Prize of $2,936 goes to Sarah Eggins having bought Rekindling.
  • 2nd Prize of $1,305 goes to Joe Sepos having bought Johannes Vermeer
  • 3rd Prize of $652 goes to Todd and Clayton Hattam having bought Max Dynamite.
  • $100 rounds out the prize money for “The Wooden Spoon” going to Paul Gilbert having bought Gallante.
  • And 24 Calcutta tickets winners shared $3882.

Lions will use their proceeds from the evening of $1631 to fund future community projects.

Congratulations to all our winners but especially Sarah who has perfect dress sense and knows how to pick a good horse. Well done Sarah.
