Locals will get an insiders look at Stroud’s fascinating history this Sunday on a special walking tour designed just for them.

Stroud Locals Day this Sunday is all about connecting the community with the history that surrounds them. The tour is part of Stroud Locals Day – an initiative of the Stroud and District Historical Society aimed at giving locals a taste of the history that surrounds them.

Society president Rodney Gorton said the day is all about creating awareness in the local community about Stroud’s history and heritage.

‘We’ve designed the tour to take in as many historic sites and buildings as possible to give locals a really good overview of the history that surrounds us in Stroud,” Mr Gorton said.

“The walking tour will be led by our guides, and residents of some of the historic houses will share their stories with us along the way.”

“We’ve had a lot of interest in the day from all sorts of people – from village residents to people with a family connection to Stroud.”

“Whether you’ve lived in the area all your life – or just moved to town – everyone is welcome.”

The tour starts form Silo Hill at 10.30am with morning tea served from 10am.

Following the tour lunch will be served (for a gold coin donation) at Stroud Courthouse from 12.30pm.  Stroud Courthouse Museum and shed will be open, and Mr Gorton and his son Bailey will conduct a blacksmithing demonstration.

Mr Gorton said people were encouraged to share memories and stories on the day.
