Stroud local girl wins the Newcastle Junior under 16’s Tournament.
Elyse Standing has added another achievement to her growing list by beating the top seeded player at the Newcastle Topspin Tennis Open Junior Tournament in October. Elyse blitzed through the Quarter and Semi Finals, with the Finals match score a respectable 6-4 6-3.
In September, Dungog High School competed in the Hunter Combined Schools Team Event State competition, which Elyse was a member, with the team taking home 3rd place over all.
Elyse started playing tennis when she was just 9 years old, with her younger sister Charlotte taking up tennis a few years later. Both of the Standing girls have achieved success on the tennis courts over the years. This year the girls attended John Newcome’s Tennis Ranch in Texas, and competed in two tennis tournaments while in the US.
Both Elyse and Charlotte and their team-mates Hannah Marquet and Georgia Stewart competed for Dungog High School in the State Championships Floris Conway Cup. The two-day event was held in Ulladulla on the NSW South Coast in July and while the girls didn’t win the tournament they were fantastic ambassadors for their school and displayed outstanding sportsmanship and athleticism throughout the event.
A special thank you must go to the unsung heros, to the parents and family members who make all this possible. Getting your kids to sport, music or performance practice each week is not an easy task, especially when you live in a rural area. So well done Mums and Dads…
Well done girls….and mums and dads.. Great achievement.
