Heidi’s Hairalicious takes on RAW

Stroud’s own Heidi Tarrant of Heidi’s Hairalicious showcased her style and creativity at the RAW event held at Newcastle late September.

RAW is an international independent arts organization unearthing, promoting and cultivating creativity across the globe. Each RAW event features visual art, fashion, music, film, hair, makeup, photography and performance art, currently operating in over 60 cities across the United States, Canada, Australia and the UK.

Heidi’s creative hair styling drew the attention of the RAW talent scouts via her social media pages, Facebook and Instagram, and as a result she was invited to participate in the RAW event.

While initially feeling a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of showcasing her talents Heidi embraced the challenge and enjoyed stretching her imagination. The show required Heidi to work on six models she hadn’t worked on before and to complete six styles in four and a half-hours. Heidi was surprised how quickly she could respond to the varying demands, realising that,
“old school skills can pay off”, she said.

The models were dressed by the RAW fashion designer featured on the evening, with make-up done by the RAW selected make-up artist. Heidi consulted with the fashion designer on the look of each model, and said ” I would’ve liked to stretch my creativity even further, but had to work with what the designer wanted”.

At the event Heidi’s daughters wowed the RAW crowd with Bonnie styled as a peacock and Millie with a tribal inspired look. One of the RAW models featured in the show included Stroud local, Rikki-Lee Day, whose hair was set into an ethereal weave that Elsa would’ve been proud of. Heidi’s stand-out style for the evening was the Melbourne Cup inspired look, which featured a top hat facinator made out of hair.

Heidi has been hairdressing for over 25 years in the region and recently purchased the property on Cowper Street in Stroud where she has set up her new salon Heidi’s Hairalicious. Her business has grown from strength to strength since moving and is taking on her daughter Bonnie as an apprentice in the new-year. The girls plan to expand the business to include beauty services such as waxing, tinting and ear piercing, which they have already been studying for.

It certainly has been a big year for Heidi and her family we wish them every success for the future.
