$1,000,000 in disaster funding for the Showground
Minister for Justice Michael Keenan and NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Justice and Police Troy Grant today announced over $1 million in disaster funding to support the restoration of Stroud Showground.
Mr Keenan said the assistance is part of the Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
“The wild weather that hit this part of NSW in April 2015 was devastating,” Mr Keenan said.
“That is why we’re continuing to collaborate with the NSW Government and help the community to recover.
“The local council has worked hard to restore Stroud Showground. Now, this joint assistance will help ensure the Showground is back to its former glory as quickly as possible.”
Mr Grant said the Stroud Showground, including its swimming pool and sporting areas, were extensively damaged in last year’s storm.
“Stroud Showground is a significant cultural and historic asset, which is why we’re supporting the Great Lakes Council (now Midcoast Council) with these restoration costs,” Mr Grant said.
“The Showground is used by around 80 different community groups and provides important tourism and economic benefit to the local region.”
The support announced today is on top of the range of disaster assistance made available by the Australian and NSW governments immediately following the disaster.
An additional $100,000
Over $100,000 in funding committed by the Federal Coalition towards the upgrade of facilities at Stroud Showground during the Federal Election will be delivered as promised, Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said today. More information…
