‘Maratus’ (PG)

Maratus, the Peacock Spider Film is the story of discovery and citizen science.

An amateur photographer from Canberra and self-described under-achiever takes a photo of a spider and posts it online. It turns out the spider has never been seen before with scientists saying it may be a new species of spider.

It takes three years for two men – one who is scared of spiders and the other who is colour blind to find this colourful 5mm spider again! This film tells the story of their journey.

WHERE | James Theatre Dungog
WHEN | Friday 3 June
TIME | 6pm

The screening of the film will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion of the story by the photographer Stuart Harris and director Simon Cunich. Scientist and spider expert Dr Jurgen Otto will also make a guest appearance.

Local naturalists Bill Dowling & Ken Rubeli will provide a local perspective on threatened species conservation projects.
