Celebrating 60 years of Stroud Lions Club

Can you imagine Stroud without:

– the swimming pool to cool you down in summer
– the local ambulance station to give you immediate help if you have a medical emergency
– the tennis courts for a game of tennis
– most of the parks around Stroud to play, have a BBQ or relax in,
– the Community Lodge where you can keep you family member or friend, when they need more care than you can provide, close by.

These fabulous facilities came about because the Lions Club of Stroud took these ideas and many others on as projects, giving these ideas a platform and legal legs to fundraise for these lifestyle essentials.

For 60 years the men and women of Stroud Lions Club have worked with the people of the Karuah Valley to make it the wonderful place it is now. How do Lions do that? Each Lion pays membership and volunteers their time to keep the organisation working paying for all their administration, insurance and running costs. This means that every charity dollar that Lions make goes to the projects or charities that they support. That is why Lions has become the largest and most successful service organisation in the world and serves more communities than any other.

Stroud Lions ClubThis has been happening in Stroud for 60 years. In 1955 Stroud asked Taree Lions Club to sponsor them to become the 45th Club in Australia. We thought we would celebrate this anniversary with you by sharing the stories of many of these projects over the next few months on the SCW (Stroud Community Web). The SCW is itself an ongoing Lions’ project and will feature as one these stories. We invite you to be a part of these celebrations as we delve into the past and look at 60 years of service for all of you.
