Outstanding Bravery
While our boys did not take home the Pride of Australia Bravery medal on Friday they are most certainly heroes in our eyes. On the morning of April 21, 2015 – Brad Smith, Bill Rathbone, Trent Moffatt, Willy Grey, Dean Handcock and Michael Maytom, all put life and limb on the line to save campers and families caught in the flash flood that swept through our town. Without their quick thinking and timely response, lives would’ve most certainly been lost.
We’d like to say a huge thank you, in our eyes you’re winners.
In my opinion they all deserved a formal award. The way they bravely ran towards trouble and not away from it, putting their own lives on the line with no thought for themselves but only of those in danger and the way they have humbly conducted themselves since, makes them true heroes in every sense of the word.
They stand shoulder to shoulder in the spirit of the ANZACS.
The strong tradition of passing on the oral history of our district will guarantee them immortality with our children’s children as the heroes of the floods.
May they raise their glasses to you boys, write songs about you and yarn about your heroic deeds over the fire for many years to come!
Well done guys, your bravery comes as no surprise to anyone that knows you!
You make me proud to live amongst you and call you friends.
In appreciation

Regardless, the local community can and should be proud of them. Well done guys.
