Bernie Butler tribute

Bernie’s well travelled billy

ABC Open producer for the Hunter region, Anthony Scully, met a 90-year-old bloke last month by the name of Bernie Butler who came to an Object Stories Workshop in a Stroud holding a billy can he bought from Paddy Pallin. No, not Paddy Pallins (the shop) but the actual Paddy Pallin in 1938 at Pallin’s original Sydney store.

Scully ran Bernie through some of the details needed to create an object story and he started by asking Bernie for a description of his object and what it was for…

Object Stories is an ABC project where you can share a story about an object that tells a story about how Australian’s used to live and work in the past, by uploading a photograph and writing a story about the object. Your stories can be explored at the ABC Open website, and there’s free workshops where you can learn how to do this.
