NBN is coming to Stroud

The National Broadband Network – NBN is Australia’s first national wholesale-only, open access communications network that is being built to bring high speed broadband and telephone services within the reach of all Australian premises. The NBN will utilise the most appropriate technology for a given location with the aim of improving ways for you to connect with one another. The plan is for every home, school and workplace in the country to have access to the NBN.

Work began in May 2014 in the Stroud area and is expected to take approximately 12 months to complete. To find out if your property will have access to the NBN click on the following link. www.nbnco.com.au/when-do-i-get-it/rollout-map

The rollout map will inform you as to whether building has commenced, NBN Co will contact you when the service is available. I will be adding a direct link to this rollout map on the front page of the Stroud Community Web so information relating to the NBN can be accessed easily.

Within the next 12 months many Stroud residents will have access to the fixed wireless network. The following link explains the difference between fibre, fixed wireless and satellite NBN. www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco/documents/fixed-wireless-factsheet.pdf

So fixed wireless is being built for those of us in town. Will it cost more to connect to the fixed wireless service compared to the city cousins who will have access to the fixed line service? Will there be compensation for everyone that is limited to the fixed wireless option? I realise that the answers cannot necessarily be given here but I thought they might stimulate some discussion. I’m interested to hear what others have to say. No worries if that is not the done thing here.
