Aeromag survey update

Community update provided by AGL

More than 50 people attended AGL’s aeromag information session on 9 January to learn more about the aeromag survey. AGL employees and Shift Geophysics, the contractors engaged to perform the survey, were on site to answer questions about information the survey is gathering and to get a first hand look at the state of the art equipment being used.

The aeromagnetic survey is now underway with the first area surveyed around the Gloucester Tops Road. The survey is moving north from this point towards Gloucester and Barrington.

The survey will cover the area from north of Gloucester to Stroud Road. An aeromag survey maps the structures that lie beneath the earth’s surface building a geological picture of the Gloucester basin.

The information is collected by a magnetometer which measures the intensity of the earth’s magnetic field. It does not transmit or emit any signal. The airship is not taking any photos or video.

The agl.com.au/gloucester website is being updated regularly to advise locals of the aircraft’s route. For safety reasons, the aircraft unable to fly in strong winds, so all work is weather dependent.

More information on the aeromag survey is available on the website or call the project information line on 1300 886 170.
